The Last Winter Fly tying Project

Post  Charlie G. on 12/31/2012, 3:53 pm

I just finished the last wood working fly tying project for 2012.

I had left over maple and Walnut lumber from my past tying stations so I built this Brush spinner
I tried it out and it works great. I spun up 2 brushes with EP fiber and some flash mixed in.

If I went and bought these brushes commercially I would have to pay around $6.00 a piece. Now I can make them with left over scrap lengths of materials.

I really enjoy working with wood and tinkering around.

Thanks guys for the positive feed back, I love building these projects.

Bruce the tying station looks better then when I finished it. Nice brass plate, that really sets it off.
I hope it gives you many years of service.

Charlie... awesome!

Bruce, great fishing and starting up what will be known as the monday crew for years to come.

Thank you both for your generosity. Happy New Year.

Here's a few of the brushes I've made so far testing the new spinner. It is easier then adding material with a dubbing loop. Plus I have left over brush to use on other flies. They work just like palmering marabou around a hook.
These brushes can be used to make fly bodies on some flies also.

I'll have to post a pic of the fly I tie using the brushes when I get back to the vice.

I've heard of this & now it makes sense (lovely set up Charlie!) can I ask what do you use as the 'cord/twine/thread' to produce these brushes?
Cheers, Jim.

Jim I have made them with 3/0 waxed thread. But I just got 2 rolls of thin stainless wire made for doing them.

Now that's a good idea!
I have just the stuff & I'm off pike fishing tomorrow, with plugs & flies..
Let's see them rip this one apart..
