Fishing in the dark

Post  CaptFrank on 9/17/2012, 11:24 am

Hit the back last night with Rich to fish the last of the incoming tide and outgoing. First spot had some fish cruising around, but they wouldn't play. Moved on to the bridge. Found Bass on the down current side. I hooked up and lost a nice Striper, got a few bumps, then hooked up again. Landed a fat 25"er on a Berkley Jerk Shad. Action died due to lots of splashing... Moved on to our next two spots. Lots of fish cruising, but they wouldn't bite. Next place was quiet. Big school of Bunker circling, but no signs of fish. We worked the structure over and I finally nailed a nice Weakie. Rich started to work the bottom and nailed two Flounder, 14" and 19" on a pink BKD (big Flattie swallowed the jig. Had to get it out of it's stomach). Lots of bites, but no further hook ups. Next three spots looked fishy as heck, but only produced a 10" Striper. My lure was nearly as big. Bunker were thick everywhere and the Blues were harassing the crap out of them. At one spot it looked like a silver wave rolling across the surface as the Bunker tried to escape the marauding Blues.
Fun night out. Released all but the keeper Flounder.

Tight Lines!
