Flies from the bench last night

Post  Charlie G. on 1/14/2012, 5:39 pm

Well being no one in the chat last night I sat down and tied a few.
Not sure if they will catch cause I'm not doing very well with the long rod.

The haeds came out a little to large on the next two I think.

And an Xmas gift from a good friend of mine.
He found it at a flea market and thought I might enjoy this. Must of been alot of work put into this cabinet cause the fins, tail and gills are hand carved.

I was still awake at midnight last night so headed to the vice again and tied this larger (6in long) tie up. I need to see how it works in the water.
I may have to add some lead wire to the under side of the hook shank to get it to sit upright while not stripping it.

Also tied one up below for Handy man.

Nice flat wings Charlie. I tied up a bunch and have not really put them to the test with the long rod. Guess my priorities are all screwed up!

Tighten them up!

Thanks Fishon I still have problems with that pillow thingy and getting the saddle hackles to lay flat without rolling to one side or the other a big PIA for me.
I did some last year that looked real good as a sand eel pattern.

I just got some large aluminum eyes 1/4in size for using on clousers. Real light weight, and I will see but I think they will be easier to cast. Might not get down in the water column as fast as lead eyes but we will see. I tied a sample up last night.
I tried a marabou tail on it also. I make them up as I go lol! It looks good in my kitchen sink when I put it in water.

I also tied one up using hackles for the tail. Makes a longer profile that moves well when in the water.
