Reel Cleaning?????

Post  fishpro on 3/18/2009, 9:41 pm

How does everyone clean and lube their reels??????
I take mine apart including the bail and gears. Clean everything with WD-40, pat dry with a towel, and lube it with greese or Hot Sause(Quantum reels) As for the bail and roller I just use regular 3in1 oil.

I use all penn products: cleaner, grease, and oil :study:

I clean mine in an ultrasonic sink with simple green. Same thing goes for the bearings. I then soak the bearings in ATF over night, re-lube and regrease

I read is a brochure from Penn NOT to use WD-40 or simliar products on the reel - it gets into the grease and causes it to fail

I stopped spraying them with WD-40 years ago - just give them a soak in fresh water and dry

Re-lube as needed and I have had much better results

Anyone know of a good source for reel grease?
