Well before I get started I'd like to thank Smitty and Skippy for thinking outside the box while creating such a unique site for all of us! Yo oldsalts...thanks for hooking me up w/SBO! I feel a little out of my league after seeing the awsome plugs in the previous weeks. All have been outstanding!! I'm a firm believer in quanity should olny come after quality. With that said I figured instead of doing a fly or teaser for the build I would go outside the box and do one of my minitures. After a trip to Mexico and catching my first Rooster fish, not having anything but pictures to remember my fish by I thought I would try to build my own, and also take a shot at a striped bass. I wanted to be out of the materials I use for tying. I'll post the how to tomorrow! Thanks SBO!!!! Bluesfish

OK Getting started. A small block of foam insulation just slightly longer than the length of the mustad 34007 4/0 hook and a peice of 220 sand paper. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.][You must be registered and logged in to see this image.][You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]The foam is sanded to get the basic shape of the fish body. A razor knife is used to cut a groove along the under side to set the hook shaft in. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]The cut is then sanded out so the hook will lay through the center of the foam body, set in place and epoxyed. (5 min. epoxy) [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.][You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]Once epoxy has dried the foam is coated w./loon hard head to protect foam and for color base. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]Fish body is put on drying wheel and left to dry and harden overnight. I'LL finish up tonight! Bluesfish

OK next is coating some feathers w/ sally hansen hard as nails. This can be applied heavy and it dries fast so the feathers don't have time to curl up. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]Once the feathers are dry they can be cut into the shapes of the fins. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.][You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]Next is the base coat color over the coated body. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]Another coat of loon hard head and back on the dryer. This is when I cut the flash for the tail, tie off the end and glue it. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.][You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]When body has dried I cut a length of Lg. e-z boby just a little longer than the fish body. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]Then pull the e-z body around the curve of the hook and over the fish. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]Tie off the nose and trim excess, slide the glued section of the flash into the tail and tie it off. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]Once guue dries the tail is clamped where it meets the e-z body to flair it out and coated w/the hard as nails. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]The tail will take at least 3-4 coats to make it hard enough to hold it's shape. I'll finish up in a little while!!!
