| Welcome everyone to week 2 of the Monster Build …!!! What we are going to do is show you how I build my Old Salts Pencil Popper. I just want to thank Smitty and SBO for this opporitunty to be invited to this list of great builder’s . And also Skippy for putting this together. This is awesome and I am proud to be involved. 1... What we do is find the centers of our AYC , I like to pre-drill all my wood before I turn it. First I drill the bottom with a 3/16 drill bit 8 inches long. what this does for me is puts a 3/16 hole about 2/3 of the way through the blank. The bigger bit makes for less wondering. Then I turn it around and finish my nose end with a 1/8 bit. I have had too many blowouts in my turned blanks [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.][You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]2… Then we turn the blank, sand and layout my eye, hook and belly weight lines... [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.][You must be registered and logged in to see this image.][You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]3… Next we us a laser to find the center line of our blank on 2 sides for the eye and belly weight, hook placement. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]More to come... Next steps we will drill for eyes, hook hole, and weight and prep the plug for sealing... |

| Ok from here we drill a 3/32 hole threw for the eye placement. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] Then we drill out a 1/2 inch hole for the eye about a 1/4 inch deep, with a forsner bit. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]As well as the recess for the belly grommet. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]Then we drill a 11/32 hole for the swivel and grommet . [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]Next i like to put a small amount of belly weight near the ass of the pencil. That is also a 11/32 hole. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]And last thing i do is burr ball the eye socket out , i think it makes the eye look better. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]Now i put the belly weight in and i use a fiberglass product call DuraGlass its waterproof and dries in minutes.. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.][You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]With in minutes i put the blank back in the lathe and sand down the excess glass. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.][You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]Now i cut the bottom end of the plug off and drill for the ass weight with a 3/8 drill. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.][You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]Here is a little something i do for when you are putting your plug threw wire in a little easyer. I use a 1/2 inch counter sink bit to the front of my weights..... man is doing this sweet. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.][You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]Then i cut the head end off at 31.5 degrees. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]Now after i am finished all this into the sealer for about 2 minutes. Hang to dry overnight and ready for Paint.!!!
